If you were holding your breath to find out what Daphne Guinness thinks of Sarah Burton, the designer who took over Alexander McQueen, you may now exhale. The heiress, stylist, style star and all around fashion titan told British Vogue that she really, really digs Burton’ work. (We’re going to guess that includes the dress she made for First Lady Michelle Obama to wear at the recent state dinner.)
But Guinness didn’t just stop there. As much as she says she loves Burton, she has a serious distaste for how many young designers talents have been sucked up by big fashion houses, and thinks that more young people should take the risk to try and make it on their own.
>>“Sarah’s brilliant – I loved her last collection,” Guinness told the magazine. “She worked with Lee for so long so she knows what to do. She’s not Lee but I think he’d be happy with her doing it. She learnt from him. Other than McQueen, I don’t love this resurrection of redundant labels. There are so many talented young designers and so many of them end up working under other people’s labels. They should be doing their own thing.”<<
