About Galliano and Speculation Begin: Who Should Replace Galliano At Dior?

Friends of Mr. Galliano, who would speak only on condition of anonymity, say that they have finally persuaded the troubled designer to go immediately into rehab — and that the pace of fashion today, and particularly the rigorous structure of a corporate fashion house, broke the fragile, artistic creator.

Also:

While the vile statements seen coming from Mr. Galliano’s drunken lips on the Internet video deserved the nearly-universal condemnation they were receiving, there is pathos in the vision of one of the world’s most famous — and best paid — designers alone, clutching a glass in a bar. The pressure from fast fashion and from the instant Internet age to create new things constantly has worn down other famous names. Marc Jacobs, design director of Louis Vuitton, ended a wild streak in rehab. Calvin Klein famously rambled across a sports pitch and admitted to substance abuse. And the late Yves Saint Laurent spent a lifetime fighting his demons...Above all, the suicide of Alexander McQueen, a year almost to the day before Mr. Galliano’s public disgrace, is a specter that hangs over the fashion industry. The death from cardiac arrest of Mr. Galliano’s closest collaborator, Steven Robinson, in 2007 also sent out an early warning signal.

 She also shares that:

The presentation of the autumn/winter 2011/12 Dior collection, designed by Galliano, is still scheduled for this Friday at the Musée Rodin. E-mails from Dior highlighting all the new spring/summer collections, including the Galliano-designed ready-to-wear range inspired by 'South Pacific' have been sent out. Information about an exhibition of watches to launch the new Dior V111 at the Avenue Montaigne headquarters of LVMH, the luxury French fashion conglomerate, on March 7th and 8th also went out.

The spokeman model Natalie Portman wore Rodarte , not Dior....only Kidman Wore Dior...
YES, JOHN GALLIANO DID mistakes...he were drunk...but really is this the correct way to "punish him"??
HE IS AN ICON! ARE you ppl forgetting everything????? Should send for a rehabilitation or anything but removing from Dior? He is one of the best who can lead the Dior house if not Galliano??? Pop stars...rockstart rappers etc did million times worst ...even in video clipps and maximum banned them...made even more famous and what happened with Galliano and he wasnt even clear....??? i dont think this is the way to make things correct...this is a punish for US!!!!!!!!
At friday show:Dior? What s now???

Following Natalie Portman’s public condemnation of the embattled designer and rumors of emergency meetings at the iconic French brand, Dior has officially fired John Galliano, effective immediately.Women’s Wear Daily reports that Dior released a brief statement Tuesday morning announcing Galliano’s termination in light of the “odious behavior” portrayed in that “I Love Hitler” video which made the rounds on Monday. In the statement, Dior’s president and chief executive officer Sidney Toledano said, “I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.”
Paris – March 1, 2011Following the allegations of anti-Semitic statements that resulted in John Galliano being questioned by police on Thursday, February 24, Christian Dior immediately suspended its relationship with its designer, pending the outcome of the police investigation.Today, in light of the deeply offensive statements and conduct by John Galliano in a video made public yesterday, Christian Dior has commenced termination proceedings against him.Sidney Toledano, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture, said: “I unequivocally condemn the statements made by John Galliano which are in total contradiction to the longstanding core values of Christian Dior”.

John Galliano’s career at Dior hasn’t been over for 24 hours yet, but people are already speculating and making bets on who will replace him. A few names have floated to the top of the heap, but we won’t know for sure who it will be until someone has signed and dated what will undoubtedly be a very lucrative contract. Still, it’s sort of fun (but also kinda sad) to informally nominate a few people for the post. But for the people who are actually going to have to make this call, we don’t imagine this being very fun. Galliano, anti-Semite though he might be, was an immensely talented designer. Sasha Wilkins, better known to some as Liberty London Girl, told the BBC that Galliano is “the most talented designer of his generation.”

don’t know who will be picked, but there are some things we can almost guarantee: This person won’t be an American. Dior, after all, couldn’t be more French if it tried, and there’s something about American design that just doesn’t quite approximate France’s way of doing things. The replacement will also have to be capable of turning out a couple of couture collections a year. With that in mind, we think any one of the following five candidates would make a splendid addition to the stable of designers at LVMH.
