Lady Gaga, ever upping the ante with her outrageous costumes and controversial persona, arrived t 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in an egg
Which makes sense, obviously, because it’s the fourth day of New York Fashion Week and only two days after Gaga’s newest (and quite possibly most anticipated) single, “Born This Way”According to Gaga’s stylist (and Mugler creative director) Nicola Formichetti’s Twitter feed, the egg was designed by Hussein Chalayan. Gaga’s as of yet unrevealed ensemble was designed by House of Mugler. Formichetti also took over Gaga’s Twitter account to offer the following explanation for her in vitro arrival:
This is Nicola, Haus of Gaga: Gaga is in incubation. Tonight’s performance is in collaboration with Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler. X
Anne Vyalitsyna(model who appears to be in charge of Gaga’s egg) said that Gaga was currently “incubating” and wouldn’t be born until her performance later tonight. Gaga did, however, offer the cameras a blurry wave.
Gaga, who has been criticized in the past for "borrowing" looks from Madonna, has come under fire recently for how similar 'Born This Way' sounds to the Material Girl's 1989 anthem 'Express Yourself,' and Gaga's Grammy performance only adds fuel to the fire. The Internet has been in a frenzy about the familiarity of the beat and vocals when Gaga's track made its rounds around the blogosphere. The Washington Post, in what might be called understatement, described 'Born This Way' as "vaguely" reminiscent of Madonna's song.
