Emmy Awards- My Best and Worst Dressed Stars

Award shows are one of my favorite things to watch- It is so fun to be transported to the Red Carpet for a night with the stars! Of course the best part about award shows are the amazing DRESSES! So I am here to recap some of my favorites, and some that really didn't impress me.
Of course the fierce, fabulous, and stunning Kim Kardashian is #1 on my best dressed list for the Emmy Awards. She looks like a Grecian Goddess in this white Marchesa gown with an amazing built-in necklace. She pulls it all together with Lorraine Schwartz jewels (bracelets and a diamond pinky finger ring).
Although the star of 'Glee' didn't take in any awards of her own, she did make my best dressed list! She was one of my favorites of the night- Ms. Lea Michele's stunning navy Oscar de la Renta gown. The neckline of this gown is so cute on Lea, and the ruffled mermaid hem really add that va-va-voom! Lea also paired her gown with stunning jewels by Lorraine Schwartz- I adore the necklace, it adds so much to her overall look!
Another favorite of the night was Claire Danes- She was such a vision in this stunning strapless Armani Prive gown. I am obsessed with the complete and total all-over beading on this gown. The color compliments her complexion perfectly, and the overall styling is perfection.
Kate Gosselin... why??? Needless to say, Kate made my WORST dressed list for the night. First of all, she just looks so incredibly out of place at the Emmy Awards. The gown is by Carmen Marc Valvo, and unfortunately it looks cheap, ill-fitting, and just totally boring. And the cowl-neck... let's not even talk about that. Overall, she didn't impress on the red carpet.
Lauren Graham did nothing to excite us on the Red Carpet. Her gown was by Yigal Azrouel, and unfortunately looks hideous. This does nothing for her- the huge billowing top looks horrible, the dress is clingy and unflattering for her figure, and the slit is super inappropriate. Overall, her look was a disappointment.

I hope you all enjoyed my Emmy fashion recap! What do you think- Who was your best and worst dressed?? Thanks for reading :)

Manly Monday

Hello, fashionistas- both male and female! Welcome to yet another fabulous Manly Monday! I have the amazing pleasure and honor of introducing our amazing guest blogger for the week: Aaron Hartman. He is here to give all of you guys an Accessories Boot Camp- So without further adieu, here is Aaron with his take on accessories!
Alright men. Line up. Does a soldier go into battle wearing only his camo pants and jacket? No, a soldier’s outfit isn’t complete without a gun and an arsenal of other tools at his disposal. Similarly, no fashion conscious man should strut down the street in an ‘outfit’ consisting of just jeans and a tee-shirt. Fellow Manly Monday contributor Justin Komins covered how to build a sleek look without the graphic tee earlier this summer; now it’s now time to add to that using the fashion worlds answer to the gun and tool belt. Welcome to Accessories Boot Camp!
Lets start with possibly the most important accessory in a man’s arsenal. An item no outfit should be without: the belt. Functionally speaking an extension cord or giant rubber band would do the trick, but try to go for a belt that adds that little something extra (something you should strive for with all your accessories). As a general rule of thumb, belt color should match shoe color. Wearing brown loafers...find a brown belt. The fashion world makes it easy on you, plenty of nice leather belts come with a reversible buckle so you can have a standard black and brown belt all one. Try this Hugo Boss reversible brown/black belt with silver buckle, great for the business casual office or making those jeans a little more formal on date night.
When going casual, don’t be afraid to stray from the rules- look for fun patterns, designs, and material other then leather to mix up your wardrobe. A nice solid color D-ring belt makes wearing shorts acceptable for a man out of high school and not employed by the US Postal Service.
With autumn around the corner, be prepared to hit society’s icy battlefield ready to fight the cold. Scarves are my favorite accessory and is a vital piece when those leaves start to change. Care-packages from home are nice on the war front but leave grandma’s hand-knitted scarves for family holiday parties. If your closet looks like that of a spy’s, filled with dark solid tones good for sneaking, use a scarf to add a splash of color. Remember to keep material and pattern in mind. If you are already wearing a cable knit sweater, then avoid a heavy thickly woven scarf. On the same note, if you’re brave enough to wear a bold patterned shirt, make sure to pair it with a solid color or toned down scarf. You can never go wrong with a classic, so start your collection out with the always-in-fashion Burberry scarf and I promise you’ll be looking to expand your selection in no time.

If aesthetic appeal isn’t enough for you, remember this- Scarves are great for those transitional fall days where there is a crisp breeze but a full sweater is just a bit too warm.
Lastly, I wouldn't be much of a drill sergeant if i didn’t teach how to use your equipment properly. Above is a helpful YouTube video on a few different ways to tie a scarf.
A soldier may still use a back pack, but if you’ve gone from schlepping algebra books to stock portfolios its time for a new bag. While a Louis Vuitton briefcase is never going to steer you wrong, feel free to keep it a bit younger and look for an over the shoulder messenger bag. If you want to avoid man purse jokes, look for a bag that is large enough to carry a laptop. In this case size matters, the larger the bag, the less jokes about murses you’ll hear, I promise. Steal from Her Royal Army and check out Storm London’s collection of bags. Their Abbey line of men’s flap bags are a great, simple leather bag perfect for carrying your notes from lecture or the laptop you need for that big presentation.
If you’ve had enough leather check out Andrew Christian’s Vintage Paratrooper Canvas Bag, probably not suited for deployment in the office but a great bag for carrying everything you need on a jaunt around town.
Alright men that’s it for Accessories Boot Camp. This is enough to help you survive on the battlefield, but any veteran will tell you this was just the beginning. Stay tune for more Manly Mondays to find out how to become a decorated soldier in the men’s fashion world.

Thanks for reading everyone, hope you enjoyed this week's Manly Monday- Thanks again to Aaron for contributing this week!

Hunter Rain Boots

With all the rainy days that I have experienced lately, I figured that I would tell all you ladies and gents about my rainy day must have boots- These Hunter Tall Original Rain Boots are the perfect accessory for any rainy day!
These shoes are a classic, made for both men, women, and children. Hunters come in both short and tall versions. In addition, these boots come in a huge variety of colors. The rain boot is made completely of rubber, which repels any water and keeps your whole foot, ankle, and leg dry no matter what. The rubber sole has texture that provides much traction, allowing the wearer to have a slip free experience.
I personally own the shiny black tall version and LOVE them. These boots go with everything and add a sophisticated look to any rainy day ensemble. These boots look fabulous with skinny jeans or tights and a dress- no matter what you choose to wear on a rainy day, I promise you will be so happy that you have these boots on your feet!
Another fun element that Hunter brings to the table are the adorable "Welly socks" for inside of your boots (pictures of sock inside and outside of boot are shown above). These socks are made specifically for the Hunter boot family. The Hunter Welly socks are designed to add warmth and comfort. These socks are available in a wide range of colors, pattern, fabrics and styles- These range from zebra print to stripes to plain black. The cost per pair ranges from $25-$40.
I would recommend ordering a size down (especially if you are a 1/2 size because Hunters only come in whole sizes 5-10). If you have a larger calf or find the original boot to be uncomfortable around your calf, order the Hunter 'Huntress' Rain boot, which is the original boot with an updated more roomy shaft for added space and comfort.
You can purchase these shoes at department stores (Nordstroms, Saks, Neiman Marcus, etc)
Retail Price for tall boot: $125 and up

Fabulous Friday Finds: Under $100

Here on Fab-YOU-lous I am going to start a new weekly tradition called 'Fabulous Friday Finds' where I feature an item ranging from shoes to clothes to accessories that has a retail price of under $100 and is absolutely fabulous! For this week I have decided to feature a fabulous fall must-have bootie...
This Steve Madden 'Chelseey' Bootie is to die for! This shoe features a patent wrapped heel and platform, which adds a fun glossy shine to the bootie. The remainder of the bootie is made of luxuriously rich suede fabric. The toe of the bootie is rounded, which is a very 'in' look for the fall season. The 'Chelseey' Bootie is available in both black and grey suede.
I realize that the most appealing part of this shoe- the sky high heel- is completely fabulous yet very scary. The heel height is 5" high with a 1 and 1/4" platform, making this heel height comparable to walking in a 3 and 3/4" heel. These booties are surprisingly easy to walk in, so don't be intimidated!
This boot is a necessity for the fall and winter seasons. It can be styled and worn many different ways- with skinny jeans, leggings or tights and a dress. This bootie looks SO expensive, and definitely like it costs much more than $100.
These Steve Madden Booties are available at Nordstrom- in stores and online.
Retail Price: $98.95

Want It Wednesday!

I am beyond in love with this stunning bag- This Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Alma PM is so FABULOUS! The Alma comes in three sizes: BB, PM, MM (from smallest to largest).
This bag has been seen on a countless number of celebrities and socialites, and is one of Louis Vuitton's classic/signature bags, so it will NEVER go out of style!
I adore Louis Vuitton's Vernis leather (I have an agenda in LV's stunning bright Red Vernis- the official color name is Pomme D'Amour- it is seen in the photo above). This leather has a patent/shiny finish to it and has the LV logo stamped into it. At first, I worried about wear and aging on this bag: Would it crack or scratch easily? Thankfully, this has not been the case at all- even with my agenda, which gets daily use, the leather still remains flawless!
This leather gives off a shine like no other, making this bag even more incredibly elegant and timeless. I am 100% asking for this bag in either the PM or MM size for Christmas this year- I am leaning towards the PM in Amarante (deep black cherry/plum color- seen in pictures above and below this paragraph) or splurging for the MM in Pomme D'Amour (stunning bright red, which would match my agenda)... YES I can't wait to get this bag, I LOVE THE ALMA!
You can purchase an Alma bag at Louis Vuitton (in stores and online)
Retail prices: Alma BB $1,090; Alma PM $1,480; Alma MM $2,010
***The only way to 100% guarantee that your Louis Vuitton purse is authentic is to purchase it from a Louis Vuitton retail store, the official Louis Vuitton online retail store www.louisvuitton.com, or at a department store boutique (such as Saks, Neiman Marcus, etc). PLEASE do not participate in the counterfeit goods market!

Manly Monday

Hello, fashionistas! Yes, it is that time of week again- It's MANLY MONDAY! I am so excited to introduce you all to the fabulous Mr. Justin Komins, who will be guest blogging for us this week, and I KNOW you all will adore his words of wisdom! Without any further adieu, here with this week's Manly Monday post is Justin Komins...
With the television and radio being so saturated with fist-pumping morons, egotistic bro's, and other social miscreants, it is hard to find people in good taste now-a-days. People look to what they see on TV to wear, and there is nothing wrong with it. For girls, its rather simple; Watch the Kardashians and you'll know how to dress somewhat presentable. For us men, its a totally different story.
The fashion forward male, (NO NOT A "METROSEXUAL"), has many places to look for today's fashion. You can look at the gold standard GQ magazine has set for men's fashion, or you could go the route of a Hypebeast (Hypebeast.com follower/a person who buys into the hype for ANY fashion release) which is geared towards the youthful streetwear enthusiast, or maybe you can go your own way. For those who do the latter, they still need that influence, that spark of creation that you can gear your wardrobe after.
Sadly, this spark seems to be coming from MTV, and no, it is not Teen Mom. JERSEY SHORE has tainted the world of men's fashion. You watch the show, you know the characters, and you know the fist-pumping. Have you noticed the attire? From Ronnie's walking billboard outfits for Emporio Armani aka Eurotrash's Finest, to Pauly D and Situation's "HEY LOOK IM ITALIAN!" graphic T's and bedazzled jeans, to Vinny's somewhat respectable button ups, Jersey Shore is spoiling the fashion sense of today's American male. Before we delve into the nitty gritty of the Jersey Shore fashion taking of America dilemma, let me just clear the air. A TEE SHIRT AND JEANS IS NOT FASHION. IT IS A SIMPLE OUTFIT.
Some may think of Jersey Shore and immediately relate Ed Hardy, orange tans, and True Religion jeans with gigantic horseshoes on the pockets. Their "club attire" and the rituals they follow on every club night are the epitome of ridiculous. Now, you may think "they only dress like that because they are celebrities. they can get away with anything". WRONG. Take a celebrity that dresses very well, say, KanYe West. Just because he is a rapper means that he can skate with his leather pants. Fashion does not discriminate. If you follow the bedazzled graphic tee shirt and gaudy bootcut jeans with some rips in them, be prepared to be hit on by typical Jersey trash or to be laughed out of the club.
More and more often, and maybe it is just Boston's new thing, but if you are under the age of 30 and go out on the scene, you are most likely wearing Tapout, Christian Audigier, Affliction, or some other Metropark branded gaudy tee with some form of denim that hasn't really been classified by science yet. Not that there is anything wrong with those brands, but the purpose of the club is to actually interact with other people (normally women) and try to make friends. No girl wants to get with a tool who looks like a Jersey Shore extra.
Instead of dressing like a UFC fighter or the Situation, why not look into a more classy direction. H&M, Express, and Gap all carry exceptional menswear, ranging from the scene/hipster style to business casual to clubwear. H&M, the least expensive of the trio, has phenomenal basic button up shirts in an assortment of colors. Gap, with prices in the mid-range area, carries great denim. When I say great, I mean it. Their denim jeans are selvedge, which is truly the best structure for seams of jeans. They are around $90 and come with little to no branding on them. Can't beat a pair of jeans that are under $100 and give you the same style index as a pair of True's or 7's that cost 3x the price.
Express is a little more expensive than the other two, but definitely worth it if you find the right things. Their MK2 shirts, which are a military styled button up, cannot be beat. I own atleast 4 of them, and get compliments every time I wear them. Equipped with straps on the shoulders, collar stays, and chest pockets, these shirts give you a professional and clean cut look with the "hey, I'm here to party" swagger as well. The MK2's are about $65+ and come in a wide variety of colors. The only downside to Express is that there can be an awful lot of trashy and gaudy graphic tee's and denim. Find your way past the nonsense and you are golden. Look at it this way, if you don't think these clothes are fit for the club after you buy them, they are always great for that job interview, date night, or entertaining at your own place.

Let's go over some final things. This is WRONG.
Do not do that. (above)
This is clean, cool, and classy. (above)
Dress like JT = WIN.

All in all, men's fashion isn't a hard thing to master. Fashion differentiates from person to person, and that's where perspective and good taste come into play. All I will say about that is this, if your shirt or pants have more bedazzles, sparkles, silver or gold screen printing, or logos than a fishing lure, it is probably not a good look. You will get noticed if you wear Jersey Shore attire, do not kid yourself. But if you want to be noticed in a positive light, try dressing to impress, not by being an attention whoring, fist pumping sleezball drinking jeigerbombs at the club.

Thanks so much for reading this week's Manly Monday post! We hope you enjoyed it :) Special thanks to Justin for guest blogging this week- Let us know what you think in a comment on this post

Eyebrow Threading

I have been getting my eyebrows waxed since middle school- I'm Italian, what can I say- I have always been *blessed* with big bushy thick eyebrows that need to be tamed. The easiest and quickest way to do this is by waxing them, so that is what I did every 2 weeks for years.
However, when I went to college, I couldn't go to my normal salon anymore because of the distance. It became very hectic trying to find a new place to get my brows waxed, and also due to my very busy schedule I found it hard to commit to an appointment time.
While walking along in the mall one day, looking for a place to get my brows waxed I came upon a threading salon that had just opened up. I had heard about eyebrow threading previously, and the practice of this hair removal method had always intrigued me... For quite a long time I just didn't understand it and was perplexed by how it worked and what it felt like. Threading is an ancient method of hair removal which originated in parts of India, the Middle and Far East, and is now gaining popularity in Western countries. This hair removal technique uses 100% cotton thread. This thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin entwining the hairs in the thread, allowing for more precise hair removal.
I decided to give eyebrow threading a shot because it was relatively inexpensive/normally priced at $15, and because you did not need to make an appointment, it was on a first come first serve basis. It felt very strange at first, especially compared to waxing- It is very hard to explain the feeling, but it only lasted around 10 minutes to get them done. The finished product was GORGEOUS, I couldn't believe how precise this practice was and how perfect my brows looked. Even better, it actually lasted longer than a wax because they were able to get every hair out, even those short stubborn ones that waxing misses.

Above is a video that I found on YouTube, it is an NBC review about threading- It shows people getting their eyebrows threaded, and explains the practice a bit more.

Have you ever tried threading?? Let me know what you thought of this ancient practice in a comment on this post! Thanks for reading, fashionistas :)

Trend Alert: Cloche Hats

Attention, fashionistas! I am loving this hot new trend for fall- the Cloche Hat! This style is usually made of wool felt materials, which will not only keep your head warm in the coming chilly months, but also provide you with vibrant and lasting stunning colors that will add that extra pop to any outfit.
Above is one of my favorite cloche hats of the season- Tarnish's Dip Due Wool Felt Cloche. This graceful cloche is detailed with a narrow belt at the crown. This design comes in a plethora of colors, one of my favorites being the stunning Burgundy Viola (picture seen below).
This hat style is trendy and very 'in' for Fall. This style is also extremely chic, posh, and timeless. If you grace the streets donning one of these cloche hat styles, you will definitely make heads turn! I love this style, and will definitely be purchasing a Cloche hat for Fall. Will you take part in this trend?
All of the hats featured in this post can be purchased at Nordstrom, and they all retail for under $50!
